Team Teach

I am a Principal trainer at Team Teach Training Ltd

Team Teach is an accredited course carefully designed to reduce risks of harm to children, young people and adults. It is intended to also reduce risk of harm to the adults who are reducing risks and maintaining safety for everyone. I have led the Team Teach courses since 2006 and many hundreds of school and care staff have benefited from my experience and honest approach and continue to do so. My feedback is always excellent.

Courses are delivered at your schools or service setting in a day or in twilights.

Each course is bespoke to the needs of the school or service.

The Course

Team Teach is an accredited comprehensive course for staff working with children in any role. The physical techniques taught are a minimal part of the course and range with consideration for age, size and learning needs. Only appropriate techniques to the child and setting will be taught to adults.

The strength of the course is in discussing shared values and challenging expectations.

The Team Teach Level 1 course is 6 hours and has an emphasis on de-escalation.

The course covers:

  • Understanding the reasons why some children can be aggressive

  • What the current Law and the Guidance says and about staff and children staying safe

  • De-escalation techniques and personal awareness

  • Physical techniques in guides, escorts, guides and steer aways and personal safety

  • Raising awareness on recording, reporting and policies

  • Level 1 can also cover the small child module

The Team Teach Level 2 course is 12 hours and with an emphasis on de-escalation

The course covers:

  • Everything in Level 1

  • Time to consider and discuss individual needs

  • Time to learn about the impact of trauma and ACEs

  • Physical techniques in restraint. Standing, seated if needed and risk assessments

  • Physical techniques in breakaways, neck holds and others relevant to the individual needs

The aim of the course is to reduce risks and the need for positive handling. It does this by supporting staff to be more confident and competent to manage situations in children's best interests. Positive and trusting relationships are the key element in positive outcomes. Team Teach is Accredited and Nationally recognised as best practice for Education and Care settings.

"..through the promotion of de-escalation strategies and the reduction of risk, restraint and restriction, to support teaching, learning and caring, by increasing staff confidence and competence, in responding to behaviours that challenge, whilst promoting and protecting positive relationships. Positive Behavioural Support  approaches are entirely compatible with Team-Teach "
